Salary to hourly calculator
and back again.

Turn a yearly salary into an hourly rate, or an hourly rate into a salary. See your pay by the hour, day, week, paycheck, month and year, with no signup.

Paid vacation and holidays don't change the math, since you're paid for them. Only add weeks you take off without pay.

How it works

How to convert salary to hourly.

  1. Find your paid hours in a year. Multiply hours per week by weeks per year. 40 hours x 52 weeks is 2,080 hours.
  2. Divide your salary by those hours. $60,000 / (40 x 52) = $60,000 / 2,080 = $28.85 an hour.
  3. Take out unpaid weeks if you have them. With 2 unpaid weeks you're paid for 50 weeks, so $60,000 / (40 x 50) = $30.00 an hour.

To go from hourly to salary, multiply instead. $25 an hour x 40 hours x 52 weeks = $52,000 a year. A quick rule of thumb for a full-time job: double the hourly rate and add three zeros. $25 an hour is about $50,000 a year.

FAQ

Salary and hourly pay, answered.

How do I convert my salary to an hourly rate?

Divide your yearly salary by the hours you're paid for in a year. For a full-time job that's 40 hours x 52 weeks, or 2,080 hours. $60,000 / 2,080 = $28.85 an hour.

How do I convert an hourly rate to a yearly salary?

Multiply your hourly rate by your hours per week, then by the weeks you're paid for. $25 x 40 x 52 = $52,000 a year. Switch the calculator to Hourly to salary to see every pay period.

How many work hours are in a year?

At 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, it's 2,080 hours. At 37.5 hours a week it's 1,950 hours. Change hours per week and weeks per year above to match your job.

What's the difference between biweekly and semi-monthly pay?

Biweekly means paid every two weeks, which is 26 paychecks in most years. Semi-monthly means paid twice a month, which is 24 paychecks a year. Each semi-monthly check is a little bigger because there are fewer of them.

Should I count paid time off?

No. Paid vacation and holidays are already part of your salary, so leave weeks per year at 52. Only enter unpaid weeks off, since those lower your yearly pay or raise your real hourly rate.

Are these numbers before or after tax?

Before. Every amount is gross pay. Your take-home pay will be lower after tax and any deductions.

Is my data saved anywhere?

Your numbers stay in your browser so they're still there when you come back. Nothing is sent to a server.

How do I know how many hours I actually work?

If you work on a computer, Voltti for Mac and Voltti for Windows record every real minute in your apps and work websites, with no timer to start or stop. The free plan includes automatic tracking.
