Billable hours you forget to log are revenue you never send. Voltti counts real minutes per app on Mac and Windows with no timers, gives you daily and weekly reports, and turns tracked time into invoices clients can verify. With Voltti Teams, a team lead sees who is working now and what each hour costs at each person's own rate.
Example: you work 40 hours in a week, bill 26 of them at $100 an hour and aim for 75%. Your utilization is 26 ÷ 40 = 65%, you billed $2,600, and 14 hours were non-billable. 75% of 40 is 30 billable hours, so you are 4 hours short, which is $400 left on the table this week.
Not sure what to charge per hour in the first place? The freelance rate calculator works it out from what you need to earn and the hours you can bill.
For a 40 hour week, the billable hours each utilization target needs:
| Target utilization | Billable hours a week |
|---|---|
| 50% | 20 |
| 60% | 24 |
| 65% | 26 |
| 70% | 28 |
| 75% | 30 |
| 80% | 32 |
| 85% | 34 |
| 90% | 36 |
Billable hours are the hours of work you can charge a client for. Time spent on things no client pays for, like admin, internal meetings, sales and learning, is non-billable.
Divide your billable hours by your total hours worked and multiply by 100. 30 billable hours out of 40 worked is a 75% utilization rate.
It depends on the role. People who spend most of the day on client work can bill a bigger share than people who also sell, manage or run the business. This calculator starts at 75% as an example target. Change it to the target you or your firm use.
Multiply the hours you work in a week by your target utilization. At 40 hours and 75%, that is 30 billable hours a week. Pick Month or Year above and the calculator turns your target into a weekly number for you.
It is the revenue you would have billed if you had hit your target, minus what you did bill. It is the hours you are short of the target times your billing rate. If you are at or above target, it is $0.
Team utilization is everyone's billable hours divided by everyone's hours worked. Revenue uses each person's own rate. Left on the table adds up each person's shortfall at their own rate, so one person over target does not hide another person under it.
Your numbers stay in your browser so they're still there when you come back. Nothing is sent to a server.
Most lost billable time is work that never got logged. Voltti for Mac and Voltti for Windows record real minutes in every app with no timer to start or stop, and turn them into invoices clients can verify. Team leads can use Voltti Teams to see what each hour costs at each person's own rate.
