Stop guessing

Bill the hours you really worked.

An invoice is only as good as the hours on it. Voltti tracks your real minutes in every app on Mac and Windows, with no timer to start or stop, and builds invoices straight from those tracked hours. Each one comes with a link where your client can check the hours on voltti.app, as Voltti recorded them.

How it works

How to make an invoice.

  1. Add your details and your client's. Your name or business, email and address go under From. Your client goes under Bill to. Add a logo if you have one.
  2. Number and date it. Give every invoice its own number, like INV-001, INV-002. The issue date starts as today and the due date 14 days later. Change either one to match your terms.
  3. List the work. One line per task or item, with the hours or quantity and your rate. Each amount is hours times rate.
  4. Add a discount or tax if you need them. The discount comes off the subtotal first, then tax is added on what is left.
  5. Save it as a PDF. Press Download PDF and choose Save as PDF in the print window. Send that file to your client.

Example: you worked 12 hours on a brand identity and 8 hours on a homepage design at $85 an hour. 12 × $85 = $1,020 and 8 × $85 = $680, so the subtotal is $1,700. With a 10% discount that is $1,700 minus $170 = $1,530. If you also charge 8% tax, that adds $122.40, for a total of $1,652.40.

Not sure what to charge? The freelance rate calculator works out the hourly rate you need from the income you want, your costs and the hours you can really bill.

FAQ

Invoices, answered.

Is this invoice generator free?

Yes. There is no signup, no watermark and no limit on how many invoices you make.

How do I save the invoice as a PDF?

Press Download PDF. Your browser's print window opens with only the invoice on the page. Set the destination to Save as PDF (on some systems it is called Microsoft Print to PDF) and save. The PDF is made by your own browser, on your device.

What should an invoice include?

Your name and contact details, your client's details, a unique invoice number, the issue date and due date, a list of the work with hours or quantities and rates, the total due and how to pay you. Some places also require extra details such as a tax number, so check what applies where you work.

How should I number my invoices?

Use a simple sequence that never repeats, such as INV-001, INV-002 and so on. Some freelancers add the year, like 2026-001. What matters is that each invoice has its own number so you and your client can find it later.

Should I bill by the hour or by the item?

Bill by the hour when the work is open-ended or the scope can change. Bill by item or project when the deliverable is clear. Set Bill by to Hours or Quantity and the invoice columns change to match.

Is my data saved anywhere?

Your draft, including a small logo, is saved in this browser so it is still there when you come back. Nothing is sent to a server, and your logo is never uploaded.

Can I make invoices from tracked hours?

Yes, with Voltti for Mac or Voltti for Windows. Voltti tracks your real working minutes automatically and builds invoices from them, with a link your client can open on voltti.app to see the hours as Voltti recorded them.
