How it works

How to calculate a pay raise.

  1. Turn the percent into a decimal. A 5% raise is 0.05.
  2. Multiply your pay by it. $25 an hour x 0.05 = $1.25 more an hour.
  3. Add it to your pay. $25 + $1.25 = $26.25 an hour. Or in one step, $25 x 1.05.
  4. Scale it up. At 40 hours a week, $1.25 more an hour is $50 a week, $2,600 a year and about $216.67 a month.

Finding the percent: subtract your old pay from your new pay, divide by your old pay and multiply by 100. Going from $25 to $27 an hour is (27 - 25) / 25 x 100 = 8%. Pick "My new pay" above to do it for you.

All numbers are gross pay, before tax and deductions, so your take-home change will be smaller. To switch between a salary and an hourly rate on its own, use the salary to hourly calculator. If you're paid overtime, the overtime calculator shows what your new rate means for a long week.

FAQ

Pay raises, answered.

How do I calculate a raise percentage?

Take your new pay minus your old pay, divide by your old pay and multiply by 100. From $52,000 to $55,000 a year is 3,000 / 52,000 x 100 = 5.77%. Pick "My new pay" above and enter both.

How much is a 3% raise on $20 an hour?

$20 x 0.03 = $0.60 more an hour, so your new rate is $20.60. At 40 hours a week that is $24 more a week and $1,248 more a year, before tax.

Does a raise change my hourly pay if I'm on a salary?

Yes. Your hourly equivalent is your salary divided by the hours you work in a year. A 5% raise on salary is a 5% raise per hour as long as your hours stay the same. Set your hours per week above to see it.

Why is my paycheck up by less than this?

This calculator shows gross pay before tax and deductions. Taxes, retirement contributions and benefits come out of the raise too, so the change on your paycheck is smaller.

How is monthly pay worked out?

Yearly pay divided by 12. Weekly pay is hourly pay times hours per week, and yearly pay is weekly pay times 52.

Is my data saved anywhere?

Your numbers stay in your browser so they're still there when you come back. Nothing is sent to a server.

Can I track my working hours automatically?

If you work on a computer, yes. Voltti for Mac and Voltti for Windows record every real minute in your apps and work websites, with no timer to start or stop. The free plan includes automatic tracking.
